Schmetterling Productions is a Brighton-based film production company committed to crafting exceptionally high-quality cinematic work with lasting social and cultural impact. We exist not only to produce visually compelling, emotionally resonant films, but to do so in a way that uplifts our local community and drives real inclusion within the industry.
We work exclusively with Brighton-based crew and talent, ensuring that every production supports the local creative economy and strengthens the region’s filmmaking infrastructure. Our productions provide meaningful opportunities for those living and working in Brighton, from early-career artists to experienced professionals.
At the heart of our company is our guiding ethos: "Grow. Develop. Fly." Inspired by the lifecycle of a butterfly—Schmetterling in German—this philosophy reflects our dedication to nurturing emerging talent. We identify and support individuals from underrepresented backgrounds, helping them develop their skills, gain on-set experience, and ultimately take flight in their careers. By creating a supportive, collaborative environment, we help new voices break through and establish themselves in the competitive world of film.
We prioritise working with creatives from communities that are often excluded from traditional film pathways—including people of colour, LGBTQ+ individuals, disabled artists, and those from working-class backgrounds. We believe the future of film must be inclusive, equitable, and reflective of the world we live in.
Every project we undertake is produced to the highest creative and technical standards. Whether narrative, documentary, or experimental, our films aim to push artistic boundaries while remaining deeply rooted in purpose and community. Our goal is to deliver cinema that not only captivates audiences, but also challenges perceptions, sparks dialogue, and drives meaningful change.
